Tutorial 7 of 7
Export, print, share and automate
Intermediate 6 min
Print Cartograph posters at true size, save and share projects, hand files to other premium apps, and create posters, routes and comparisons through the JSON API and MCP.
This tutorial collects everything that leaves Cartograph: print files, project files, links, App Bridge hand-overs and the engine tools for scripts and AI agents.
Print a poster
Export → Poster as PDF writes a vector PDF at the exact paper size. In the print dialog choose Actual size (100 %), not “fit to page”. For a print shop, send the PDF or the SVG – both are true size in millimetres. Poster as PNG (300 dpi) is the right raster file for photo printers; 150 dpi is enough for screens.
Every file carries “© OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL”. Posters count as Produced Works under the ODbL, so you may print, give away and sell them as long as that line stays.
Save and reopen projects
- Projects save themselves in this browser; File → Recent projects… lists them with their tab and map.
- File → Save project file writes a
.cartograph.jsonincluding your map data and track. Ctrl+S saves, Ctrl+O opens. - Signed in with Google Drive connected, the bar above the workspace offers saving to Drive as well.
- Bundlekeep can back up Cartograph projects together with those of the other apps.
Share a link
File → Share link… builds a link with all settings in the address. It never contains your own map file or the people of the meet-halfway tab. Links that use the Vaduz sample open completely; for your own map, the person opening the link needs the same file.
Hand files to other apps
The Export menu lists Open the SVG in another app…, Open the PDF in another app… and Open the PNG in another app… for posters, and Open the GeoJSON in another app… for routes, meeting points and moved countries – for example to put a poster into a layout or to chart a route.
Automate with the API and MCP
The four engines are also usefulweb tools with forms, a JSON API and MCP:
cartograph-map-poster– poster SVG and PDF from an uploaded extract (or the Vaduz sample),cartograph-route-art– shape snapped to the roads, as GPX,cartograph-meet-halfway– midpoint, fairest point, least total distance and fairest by road,cartograph-true-size– moved outline, true and apparent areas.
They use exactly the same code as the app: the tests compare the files byte for byte. Send files as JSON with filename, contentType and contentBase64. An agent can also create a project that follows /project.schema.json and open it with a #project= link.
Keyboard summary
Press ? for the list: 1 … 4 switch tabs, arrow keys, plus, minus and brackets edit the map preview, Enter snaps a route, and Ctrl+Z / Ctrl+Shift+Z undo and redo. Single-key shortcuts can be switched off in that dialog.
